Did you know?

Mina Hegaard and Kenyon Gibson, the brother and sister team that forms Minawear, partnered in 1998 to begin designing and manufacturing the groovy california lifestyle line in Los Angeles, CA.

Our mission is to make the world of fashion a better place by using sustainable fibers like hemp and organic cotton and manufacturing in "sweat free" environments. We are commited to building a company that has a conscience and a future in a green world.

Minawear has evolved into a full service licensed manufacturing company, available for private label and facilitated designing. Unique for its personable and easy to work with staff, and on time quality, Minawear maintains commitment to our customers, with 8 years of dependable service.

Currently Mina is designing and heading production in Venice, CA, and Kenyon resides in London, having recently released his long awaited book, "Hemp for Victory" which is now availble on minawear.com on the book page. He is also an artist and author of several conspiracy theory books, and can be contacted through his website hempforvictory.blogspot.com, which is a current source for information regarding all things hemp in the world.

As you learn about its seemingly endless uses, Mina and Kenyon hope that you enjoy wearing your hemp not only because it is comfortable, cool, and sexy, but also because by choosing a green product you are choosing power and freedom.

Hand crafted

Many different people from China to California lovingly craft each garment from the seed to the final product. If we had it our way, it would be grown here, but since industrial hemp is illegal to grow in the US, we must import hemp, and continue to vote to legalize farming it.

First the hemp and cotton are grown on small family farms in China without the use of harmful pesticides and chemical fertilizers. (Cotton is one of the biggest polluting industries in the world due to chemical fertilizers and pesticides).

From the feilds to the mills in China, the hemp is grown, processed and knit or woven into luxurious versatile fabrics. Photo courtesy of Hemp Traders.

It is then harvested and processed to be spun together in yarns for knitting and weaving. The fabric then takes a six week boat trip to California where it is unloaded in Long Beach and shipped to our cutter in downtown Los Angeles California and then to the sewing factory a few miles away. After it is sewn it goes to the dye house down the road to be dyed using the safest most colorfast fiber reactive dyes, and finally enzyme washed to produce our trademark ultra soft hand. We are proud to manufacture in the USA, which makes it possible for us to work closely with our factories to ensure decent working conditions and wages for the employees. The end product is karma free, however it costs more money than a sweatshop garment, and we appreciate your understanding and support for the workers in the USA. They do too!!

As a green company we use recycled boxes and are careful not to create unnecessary waste with excessive packaging.

You can play hard and rest easy in your minawear.
